For the love of the BIG DOG!

The Mastidane the real giant breed of dogs!

If you’ve ever wanted to own a giant breed, and I mean GIANT, the Mastidane is the dog for you.  What is a Mastidane?  Literally, it is the real giant breed of dogs. It is a love match between a huge, majestic Great Dane and an enormous, beefy, English Mastiff.  Some people like to refer to them by the name Daniff, but we here at Mastidane.com feel that name is just too diminutive for such a massive beast.  We’re not into anything that sounds like a girly dog, and that is what “Daniff” sounds like to us.  They are also, in some circles referred to as, Gladiator Danes–we approve of that moniker.

Currently, this site is informational and we are trying to connect Mastidane puppies to potential Mastidane/Gladiator families.  As we grow and time permits we will be adding more to this site.  If you have Mastidane puppies you would like to showcase on this site, shoot us an email (bigdogs@mastidane.com)  and we will communicate with you.

The BIG DOG Philosophy

Not a dog for everyone

The thing about all dogs, big, or little, is they will become who you make them.  The Mastidane will generally grow to a minimum of 160 pounds and that is the runt of the littler.  And although this is not a new breed, it is still mostly unknown but gaining in recognition and popularity among BIG DOG lovers.  That being said, it takes special parents to bring up one of these mammoth beasts.

It is crucial that they learn as tiny pups that YOU are the boss, not them.  They can easily drag someone across the park if they see something interesting.  So, behavior training must start when they are little…they get BIG real fast.  Also, they innately want to protect you, so if you teach one of these dogs to be aggressive, you will potentially have a 200 pound psycho on your hands, and no one wants that!  By nature they are protective and by their sheer size, they are intimidating.

EARS–to crop or to flop

There are also two schools of thought on ears.  Some people like the floppy look and some, like me, like a nice crop to the ear.  It just depends if you want your Mastidane to look more like a Dane or a Mastiff.  It is all a personal choice.  Just remember that an ear crop should be done before 10 weeks. 8 weeks is optimal.  Talk to your vet about your options.
